To put things in perspective of how long this drought was, it spanned from the presidencies of Theodore Roosevelt all the way to Barack Obama. When the Billy Goat curse began in 1945, the Cubs were already in a lengthy title drought with thejr last one in 1908 37 years prior. Even more mind blowing, when the drought started: 1. Walt Disney was just 7 years old. 2. The German Empire existed. 3. Construction of the Titanic just started. 4. Dwight Eisenhower was still in high school. LBJ was the last POTUS to be born before the drought and JFK was the first to be born when it began. 5. WW1 hadn't occurred. 6. During the 1908 World Series, the Congo was under the sole rule of Leopold II.

This was the last year of the 12-game season. The expansion of 1960 (Dallas) and 1961 (Minnesota) was done in an attempt to thwart the AFL. The Minnesota group defected from the rival league for an NFL franchise - and were replaced by the Oakland Raiders. The Dallas Texans gave up after three-years of going head-to-head with the Cowboys and moved to Kansas City. (Ironically, it would be the Dallas and KC owners who paved the way for the merger). The Playoff Bowl (the third-place game) started in 1960 and was created so the NFL would have another national TV window. (The NFL still had local contracts while the AFL sold the league-wide rights to one network.)

My Grandmothers Father was born and raised in Würzburg, all I know are the stories that have been passed down to me, and i still have a few items from the area, including 14 of the large pre-war post cards of Würzburg, I remember as a child, my grandmother reading letters from family who still lived there, and that i couldn't read the letters being in German, as an adult i have tried to find out who they may have been, but have never been successful, it took me 20 years just to find out who my Great grandfathers - father was, but still no records because Würzburg was so decimated I was always told what a beautiful area it was, War is terrible unforgiving thing for all.

Not sure if it’s a UK thing only but Hoover is used for vacuum cleaner. A lot of the brand names mentioned are not used here, like they are in the USA , as the typical name of the product. Band aid’s are plasters, chap sticks are lip balm and popsicles are ice lollies, for example. I find it very interesting to see how the English language has changed both here and across the pond.

I don't believe I have. We had a crazy flood, tho, in Brattleboro, VT, during Katrina. Whole streets were underwater. The area is prone to it, apparently. It's happened there before. I'm also pretty sure the bombs used by the RAF were called "Bouncing Bettys." Love the old history docs. I've seen a ton of em.
